Tick Audio: I Got Tired of Staring. So I Built Something to Listen Instead.
Scalping on the one-minute chart means staring at a price ladder for hours, trying to catch the exact moment flow shifts. After a few years of that, your eyes get tired in a way that has nothing to do with screen brightness. It's the kind of fatigue that comes from forcing your visual attention to do a job it was never really built for — tracking rapid, granular, repetitive data, tick after tick, for an entire session.
I started wondering if there was a different sense I could offload some of that work to. Hearing is good at exactly the kind of pattern-detection that staring at ticks demands — rhythm, frequency, repetition. You don't have to consciously process a rhythm to notice when it changes. Your ear just knows. I'd read about traders in futures and stocks paying real money — $99 a month and up — for tools that turned market activity into sound for exactly this reason. Nothing like it existed for MT5.
So I built it. Tick Audio hooks into live MT5 tick data and converts it into real-time tones — a high tone when the ask gets hit, a low tone when the bid gets hit. That's the whole concept, and it's deceptively simple to describe and genuinely useful to actually use. When ticks start hammering the ask back-to-back, you hear it before you'd necessarily notice it on the chart — a kind of urgency in the sound that a quiet, orderly market just doesn't have. When the bids start taking the hits, the character of the sound changes with it.
What it gave me back, more than anything, was my eyes. I can run Tick Audio in the background, keep my visual attention on my actual charts and order entry, and still have a constant, passive read on market flow running the whole time. It's not replacing analysis — it's running alongside it, catching things in the periphery of my attention instead of demanding the center of it.
I priced it as a one-time purchase — $129.99, no subscription — because that's the model I'd have wanted as a buyer. I didn't want to build something that nickel-and-dimes people monthly for a tool this focused. It's a lightweight Windows app, built to run quietly alongside your MT5 terminal, and right now it's something you can only get from Algomist — I built it because it didn't exist anywhere else for this platform, and I wanted to put it in the hands of other MT5 traders who've felt the same eye strain I have. Expected release date Oct 15th - 2026 Find it under Tools from the main menu.
